(Post 28) Planning- Casting and characters

Casting and Characters  In our planning for cast and characters which we will be using in our media coursework we have narrowed it down to using Amelia (me) Daisy who are twin sisters in real life and in the music video which we will filming. We thought it would be a good idea to use real sisters rather than pretending to act that people are sisters so that the acting looks genuine and real rather than faking it.  CHARACTER ONE: Name: Amelia Gilbert Age: 17 DOB: 10/01/00 Gender: Female file:///var/folders/kc/yd9nlvq54l33yt8c_5sc_qbw0000gn/T/IMG_8573.JPG CHARACTER TWO: Name: Daisy Gilbert Age: 17 DOB: 10/01/00 Gender: Female The characters that they will be playing is as similar to their normal life as possible. That they have a strong sisterly connection and are showing that through the filming techniques that we use. The setting that we are usin...

(Post 27) Planning- Setting

Image
What is setting? What do you understand by the term 'setting'? "The place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place'. However, in terms of film settings its a lot more. For example, the time is an important factor as if it were set in WW2.  What settings do you want to use in your video?  For our video we want to portray present day, with a variety of shots in and out of a house located in lowestoft, suffolk. The season will be winter as my group and I thought the season would compliment our ideas.  Why are you wanting to create these settings? To add nostalgia, to create the sister-bond and the adventure of youth.   How will they create a mile-en-scene? The settings we have chosen help and compliment out initial idea. For example, playing on the beach and outdoors is more nostalgia than being in perhaps a shopping centr...

(Post 26) Planning- Script/Stage directions/Plot outline

Image
SCRIPT/ STAGE DIRECTIONS/PLOT OUTLINES Script To plan our script for our music video, we firstly had to, decide whether we want any dialogue, or narration before we decide on a script decisions. We think, having looked at and observed lots of music videos, those with a story have a couple of lines of dialogue before and after the actual music. We considered using this technique to add to the storyboard but think as our plan is to montage a sister road trip displaying their love for each other, it would be hard to add in dialogue that suits our plot, because it changes a lot from scene to scene. Therefore, unless we come up with some suitable dialogue on the day, or one of the shots contains some talking, then we don't plan on using any dialogue, and as a consequence, a script. Stage directions Similarly, one of the first topics we talked about were the stage directions becuase it stems from the subject of the plot and how the storyline develops, and therefore, how you go ...

(Post 25) feedback of your Audience Research findings

After completing our initial audience feedback video we discovered some things to guide us with our coursework : That most people think that the target audience for music videos is younger people, and not many people from an older demographic watch music videos of choice; only if they are on TV in the background. That people aren't really aware of marketing/advertisement for music videos. It may make people buy a bands music, but some people believe that they will watch the video after they already know of the band, whereas others think that if they see are really good music video it may act as an incentive for people to look further into a purchase the bands music. The main devices people watch music videos on are TV and mobiles devices. How will this affect our coursework: By taking this knowledge into account, we are more likely to make our target audience people of the younger generations, as this seems to be the demographic that consumes music videos the most so t...

(Post 24) Audience Research Video 1

Image
AUDIENCE RESEARCH VIDEO  This is our final outcome video interviews for the audience research . In the end, the people we asked were middle to elder-aged women. Therefore, the response we got from our questions about music videos were only representative of this gender and age group. As we're looking at targeting our music at a younger generation and mixed gender, the answers can be useful but not taken literally when reflected on our actual coursework video.

(Post 23) Audience Research

We have been set the task of starting our audience research for our coursework; which will give us a clearer idea on what the consumers would want to see from our work for it to be successful. We decided the most effective way of collecting this information is to make a video, asking people from around Wymondham what makes a good music video. By asking the public we will get a variety of ages, which will help us get more inclusive answers to our questions, rather than if we just stayed in sixth form and asked our peers. The three umbrella questions we want to break down and answer are : 1) What do real audiences consume? 2) Who are the specific audiences for particular products ? 3) How do media industries target those audiences ? We have come up with our own questions to try and get more specific answers: 1) Do you watch music videos in your spare time? If so why? 2) What platforms do you watch these videos on? 3) How do you know about these videos? How do you think the...

(Post 22) Forms and Conventions

Image
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS Forms, codes and conventions are important to consider and understand when constructing a film, particularly an amateur one. Firstly, there is a reason as to why they are conventional in the first place: they confer a sense of familiarity on the audience. This familiarity is important to help the audience understand something. They can work as short-cuts; by employing something the audience already understands it allows you to build on them to create your own original work. For example, take genre conventions. If you're creating a sci-fi film, you will likely include settings and props etc. that are easily identifiable to the sci-fi genre, such as space or aliens etc. This immediately allows the audience to identify the film as a sci-fi film, therefore, they're almost immediately familiar with the landscape on which your film is set (eg. alien or far away). This means you don't have to spend loads of time making sure your audience understand that th...

(Post 20 continued) Wes Anderson styled music video

Image
Wes Anderson styled music video Our task was to create a short minute music video in the style of Wes Anderson. We have been put into groups of three and given a variety of songs to chose from, our song we chose was 'she's so lovely' by scouting for girls.  video below shows the song we have chosen;  Video of our music video 'Wales Anderson  (born May 1, 1969) is an American film director, film producer, screenwriter, and actor.  His films are known for their distinctive visual and narrative style.' - taken from the website  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wes_Anderson   Wes anderson is a famous film  director  who is usually know for placing his actors in the centre of the frame, whereas most film directors tend to shy away from this technique. He seems to have found a fascination and passion in symmetry within his film making.  In the imag...

(Post 20) Final practice video task planning

Image
One take video We were set with the task of making a video in one take. We were told it had to be upbeat and we were given a choice of songs, and the one that we decided to use is  Grace kelly by MIKA. The video had to have at least 4 people in and at 10 seconds of miming as a minimum. The inspiration behind this task was the Okay go videos that are all really fun, and one take.  Here is an example: We decided to go with the idea of having one person walk, and different people join in while dancing as we thought this would create the happy feel we were going for. It was also the simplest idea to create as we only had 2 hours to complete the task, and we had to do it in school time and this idea enables us to make an effective video in the location of our school. Here is the finished video we created: This was different from any task we have done before as you did not have the safety net of editing and just cutting out any footage that wasn't how you wanted t...

(Post 17) Ancillary Task 2 practice

Image
Re-creating an album cover In groups of two, we were given a task to re-create an exiting album cover. Me and my classmate Luke, got given the album cover by Andrew W.K. who is an american music artist. ' Andrew Fetterly Wilkes-Krier  (born May 9, 1979), better known by his stagename  Andrew W.K. , is an American  singer-songwriter ,  multi-instrumentalist ,  entertainer ,  motivational speaker , and  music producer . As a musician, he is known for his singles " Party Hard " and " We Want Fun ".' taken from     Andrew W.K. - Wikipedia   The original album cover is displayed to the right.  Our Plan -  Mine and lukes plan is to recreate the album cover using another of our classmates, Tazmin. We plan to use the dark room in our art department within the school, to create the darkness surrounding Tazmin, just like it surrounds Andrew W.K.. We also plan to use fake blood to create the nosebleed effect, as it ...

(Post 16) Ancillary Task research

Image
For the following task my group and I had to create a 'talking head' video. This task is where we had to ask people about famous album covers and film posters to try and get more of an understanding of the consumer side to our ancillary task. Here are the questions we have to ask each respondent : 1)  What makes a film poster/music album cover stand out from the others? 2) In what ways can you think of film posters/music album covers link to the film plot/music, video/song themselves? 3) How much of a marketing tool do you consider a film poster and album cover to be? 4) As a consumer, what hints/tips can you give us in regard to making our own posters and/or album covers? Here is the final video: Hopefully we have the gained from the information we received from our interviews to let us what makes a  successful film poster or album cover. I also hope we have gained what not to include within an album cover or film poster.

(Post 15) Ancillary task 1 practice

Image
Ancillary task 1 practice Recreate an existing film poster  In groups of two we were given a film poster to recreate using what we had. For example our phones and laptops (of course some did not have these resources). We randomly picked a letter between A, B, C, D, E and me and my partner - Jack - picked the letter D leaving us with the poster 'Dark knight' with the joker holding a playing card. The image is displayed below. To create this outcome, myself and Jack got a mutual friend to model for us in a dark drama room within our school premises. We wanted to use a dark room as the original film poster is very dark and we thought it would make the editing process a lot easier if the background was already dark. We then transported the image from my phone to my macbook to ultimately edit the photo on Adobe PhotoShop. We used numerous tools (such as; brightness and contrast, levels, curves, exposure, photo filters and many more) to try and create a similar effec...
