(Post 37) Planning - Ancillary task 2- Poster
Ancillary Task 2 - Poster
To me, an iconic album poster is he beatles on abby road. Abbey Road is the eleventh album by English rock band the beatles , released on 26 September 1969 by Apple Records. The recording sessions for the album were the last in which all four Beatles participated. Although Let It Be was the final album that the Beatles completed before the band's dissolution in April 1970, most of the album had been recorded before the Abbey Road sessions began.
Another iconic album poster to me, is David Bowie 'aladdin sane' due to the fact is very creative and artistic which to me, interests me a great deal. The colours used are very bold and interest me as to how they have been applied to the cover and the artist himself. Aladdin Sane is the sixth studio album by English musician David Bowie, released by RCA Records on 13 April 1973. The follow-up to his breakthrough The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, it was the first album he wrote and released from a position of stardom.
A more dated iconic album cover to me is 'More life' drake. The reasoning for liking this album cover so much is also due to the creativity. I feel as though the cover is rather simplistic however this looks suitable and creative for the type of music he has created. Additionally, I also admire the composition, the image is very central which looks very effective. Moreover the black boarder makes the image and text stand out. The blue text is also very simplistic yet the vibe that is given off links to the image and composition used and also the music vibes.
Here is the album cover for 'The Strokes'. The song we will be using for our final music video. The music video is very basic however, very intriguing. This is because it has a yellow background with a very busy pattern included within the letters.
our plan for our video cover;
Our plan for our music video poster is to be very simplistic with an image of a still taken from the music video with bold white writing directly over the top. My group and I wanted to have a simple music cover as it will not give to much away so therefore, will be a surprise when the viewer watches the music video. We aim to use adobe photoshop to edit our music video due to the fact I have used this in the past and it has been extremely helpful and easy to use. Adobe Photoshop - An image editing software developed and manufactured by Adobe Systems Inc. Photoshop is considered one of the leaders in photo editing software. The software allows users to manipulate, crop, resize, and correct color on digital photos.
We have gathered together some information from surveys I have personally made. These surveys include what people in our target audience think about music posters, therefore we will use this information when making the music video poster. This is so that they are precise to how our target audience our attracted to them.

WHAT WE FOUND:
From completing these surveys we found nobody noticeably remembers any album posters. This may because they were forgettable or album posters aren't as common now that social media is so prevalent in promoting and advertising music, instead. Regarding how important a poster is, in deciding whether to buy the album isn't, to older people, but to a younger audience, it can be an important factor. For the respondents, a good poster needs strong bold design ie. a large graphic photo. Also, the track name/album name shouldn't take up too much of the poster, say around 40%. However, the image can either be of the act or a design/artwork piece, it doesn't matter much as both can work well, and this doesn't depend on if the artist is a soloist or a group/band. It is unanimous that there should be a strong theme across the CD cover and album poster, and it can help if there's a star rating or quote. On whether there should be the social media accounts of the artist on the poster, the younger respondents answered 'no', whilst older respondents said 'yes'. This may be because I think that if they were interested in buying their music, they may already follow their social media. People thought that the release date and ways of purchasing should be on the poster but some also thought that they could easily find that out and so it wouldn't be essential to the poster. And finally, the choice of font and text colour are very important and crucial to the poster.
